About Me

VERA McCANTS is a seasoned property management specialist with more than 30 years of real estate development, subsidized property management, condominium management and low-income housing development experience. Throughout her career, Ms. McCants has supervised the planning and implementation of large capital improvement and modernization projects, maintained positive client relations and services, and turned non-profitable entities into organizations with profits in excess of $2 million.

Ms. McCants is the president and CEO of VMC Management Corporation, an African American, family-owned and operated real estate services firm headquartered in East Orange, N.J. Accredited by the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), VMC is one of New Jersey’s premier property management and development companies. Whether overseeing the implementation of processes required by local, state or federal regulatory bodies, staying current with the New Jersey and Housing Mortgage Finance Agency procedures or staying well-informed of policy changes required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Ms. McCants makes sure that all of the properties under her management control are in full compliance at all times.

In addition to a long-standing history of managing subsidized housing developments, VMC Management has directed the profitable operations of 17 garden apartments and 2 mid-rise residential apartment buildings, consisting of 300 units with a $3.5 million annual budget. VMC has also built several low-income town homes and single family estate homes.

Prior to founding VMC Management in 1985, Ms. McCants served as Vice President, Chairman of the Board and eventually as Executive Director for Inner-City Christian Action for Housing, Inc. (INCCA), an ecumenical council that builds affordable housing in the City of Paterson, New Jersey. During her tenure with INCCA, Ms. McCants was an integral player in the development and management of three sustainable, subsidized housing projects – INCCA Carroll Street Houses (opened in 1977 – 88 units), INCCA Triangle Village – (opened in 1980 – 159 units) and INCCA Gardens (1990-1995 – built and sold 12 affordable free-standing duplex homes).

Ms. McCants holds a master’s degree in Urban Planning and Community Organization from Rutgers University as well as a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Psychology (Cum Laude) from William Paterson University. She is a member of the Institute of Real Estate Management, the Property Owners Association of New Jersey, the Board of Realtors- Essex County, the Affordable Housing Council of New Jersey, the New Jersey Apartment Association, as well as an active board member of the New Jersey Historical Society Board of Governors

Ms. McCants is a Licensed Real Estate Broker, a Certified Property Manager (CPM), a Certified Assistant Housing Manager (AHM), a Certified Occupancy Specialist (COS) and a dedicated and committed Managing Agent. Born and raised in Paterson, N.J., she currently resides in East Orange, NJ.
