About Me

David McCants is a property development and investment management specialist. With a strong background in technology management, Mr. McCants is also an expert in organizational effectiveness.

During the mid 90’s Mr. McCants joined VMC, where his solid financial and organizational expertise have helped to catapult the organization to new levels of excellence. His extensive financial consulting background helps to ensure financial and performance efficiency for all VMC properties. Under Mr. McCants’ direction, VMC is currently undergoing a process whereby clients’ finance and performance management competencies are being assessed to identify underlying savings.

Mr. McCants has spearheaded an effort to provide VMC clients with savings on average of more than $500 per residential unit per month. For a property that has 100 units, this translates into $600,000 of annual savings that not only significantly enhances the bottom line but also, provides additional capital to further prolong the life and well being of the property.

Mr. McCants is also the lead on real estate development for VMC and constantly works to identify new business opportunities and business partners that can expand VMC’s network of competent professionals. He has led the financing, management and delivery of two $5 million residential communities consisting of 27 single family custom built homes. He has also worked as a General Contractor apprentice for VMC’s sister company, VJ Construction, where he further enhanced his knowledge of the construction and maintenance industries.

Prior to joining VMC, Mr. McCants worked with Morgan Stanley as a member of a national twelve person comprehensive training program involving exposure to investment strategy and asset allocation, tax and estate planning, insurance services, risk management and derivatives, asset manager selection and evaluation and investment banking services. While at Goldman Sachs, he provided oversight, delivery and program management as a member of a two-person management team leveraging 120 – person IT staff responsible for $40 million. Prior to working on Wall Street, Mr. McCants worked for nearly ten years as a management consultant with Accenture, Inc. in the financial services industry. During this period, he led numerous Fortune 100 companies’ transformation efforts. Within the Business Process Management group, for example, David simultaneously led four financial accounting software package implementation efforts resulting in average cost savings of approximately $500M annually per company. In addition, David managed a $75MM, 15-person team delivering Year 2000 readiness services for more than 2,500 users in 30 different US locations.

A graduate of The Columbia University School of Business, Mr. McCants was also as a Robert F. Toigo Fellow. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics with a minor in Applied Mathematics from Brown University and is a member of the National Black Masters of Business Administration Association, Inroads, Inc. and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Mr. McCants currently resides in East Orange, NJ.
